The Winter Garden |
On March, the 7th, 2001, I, Gregory Collins
of Deepdale Web Design attended the Morning Advertiser
Pub Industry Awards after being short-listed for an award
in the Best Pub Website category, sponsored by www.pubserve.com.
I was accompanied by Margaret Baines, Landlady of Tan
Hill and daughter, Andrea. I submitted my Tan Hill Inn website for the award prior to Christmas 2000 and was notified by telephone in January. Two days later I received my invitation to the award by post. I had to read the letter several times before I could believe it! I promptly booked a couple of days off work at my Royal Mail job for the event. A few weeks later I received a rail and tube ticket in the post and on the morning of March 7th, 2001 proceeded to Preston Railway station where I boarded the Virgin Express train for London Euston. In London I took the tube to Marylebone Station where I found the Landmark Hotel adjacent to the station. |
| And what a magnificent hotel it is. With it's
Victorian splendor and luxury my first thought was was
this the right hotel? It was and I found that Margaret
and Andrea Baines had made it down from Tan Hill. That
evening I was introduced to the other finalists for the
various awards and I was plied with complementary
champaigne before the Dinner followed by a brief cabaret
act then the Awards itself. To collect the second prize,
the Silver Award was the crowning moment of our evening. Just to attend such an event in such a lovely hotel is to me reward enough for my work on the Tan Hill Website and my relationship with Britain's Highest Pub. |

| Deepdale Web Design would like to thank the
Morning Advertiser for it's hospitality, the staff of the
Landmark Hotel, Marylebone, London. for welcoming us at
their beautiful hotel and head chef, John Burton-Race and
his staff for the excellent meal. Also thanks to Richard
Branson and Brian Souter's Virgin Trains which I found to
be a lot cleaner and punctual than the old British Rail,
and the staff to be politer too. Visit the Landmark Hotel's web site at: www.landmarklondon.co.uk |
